Best NSFW character card sites and platforms (2026)

AI character cards are small files that tell a chatbot who to be: a name, personality, scenario, opening message, and example dialogue. The NSFW roleplay scene runs on them. Somebody writes a good card, uploads it, and thousands of people download it into whatever uncensored chat setup they use.

This guide splits the topic in two, because people mix them up constantly. First, the card sites, where you find and download NSFW character cards. Second, the platforms, where those characters actually talk back. A card on its own does nothing. You need somewhere to run it.

If cards are new to you, our NSFW roleplay guide explains what goes inside one and why bad cards fall apart mid-scene.

How character cards work (the 60-second version)

Most cards are PNG images with the character data hidden inside the file as embedded JSON. The image is the avatar. The text is the character. That’s why you can drag a PNG from one site into another app and the whole personality comes with it.

The common formats are V2 (the long-running standard) and V3, which adds features like embedded lorebooks and extra assets. SillyTavern, the most popular self-hosted frontend, accepts PNG, JSON, YAML, CHARX and BYAF files and reads V3 cards, though it reportedly saves them back as V2.

One catch matters for this list. Commercial companion apps like GirlfriendGPT and Candy.ai don’t import these files. Card portability only works across the indie roleplay ecosystem: SillyTavern, Chub’s Venus, Janitor AI, CrushOn, Joyland and similar. More on that below.

Where to download NSFW character cards

Chub AI (CharacterHub): the biggest library

Chub is the default answer and has been for years. Its hub reportedly holds tens of thousands of user-made cards, and the NSFW catalog goes deeper than anywhere else, from plain girlfriend scenarios to kinks most platforms ban outright. “Venus chub ai” alone pulls about 4,400 searches a month, which tells you how many people go there to chat as well as download.

Search is weak. Tag filters are what make it usable, and you’ll want them on, because moderation is minimal and you will run into cards you didn’t want to see. Lorebooks live on Chub too, and SillyTavern can import both cards and lorebooks straight from a Chub link.

Chub also runs Venus, its own chat interface, so you can download a card or talk to it in place. The free starter models are weak, and paid plans have a billing catch. Our Chub AI review covers both.

JannyAI and Datacat: Janitor AI bots, archived

Janitor AI has one of the biggest NSFW bot catalogs, but it’s built to keep you chatting on Janitor. Many creators hide their bot definitions, so you can’t just download the card. JannyAI archives Janitor bots as downloadable cards, and Datacat does the same as a backup when JannyAI goes down (which it reportedly does).

There’s a quirk if you use SillyTavern’s Import from URL. Paste the janitorai.com link, not the jannyai.com one. SillyTavern fetches Janitor links through JannyAI’s archive, and a direct JannyAI link reportedly fails. JannyAI’s download endpoint also sits behind Cloudflare bot protection, which can block cloud-hosted SillyTavern installs. A home install is usually fine.

If Janitor itself has become a pain (region blocks and ID checks have hit some users), our Janitor AI alternatives list covers where people are moving.

Character Tavern and AICharacterCards: smaller, easier to browse

These two are the curated option. The catalogs are much smaller than Chub’s, but browsing is cleaner and more visual, and you can read a card’s description and first message before downloading it. That preview matters more than it sounds. A first message tells you fast whether the writer can actually write.

AICharacterCards is one of the domains SillyTavern’s URL import recognizes, so links pull straight in. Check each site’s NSFW filter settings yourself. Their content policies aren’t spelled out as clearly as Chub’s.

CharaVault and Botbooru: volume over curation

CharaVault sits behind an age check and claims a huge catalog. Its own pages quote anything from 52,000 to 195,000+ cards, so treat the exact number loosely. Botbooru is a booru-style archive with tag browsing. Both are download-only for SillyTavern (no URL import), and quality swings from card to card. Expect to dig.

Pygmalion and RisuRealm: frontend-attached hubs

Pygmalion (pygmalion.chat) and RisuRealm are card hubs tied to their own chat projects. SillyTavern’s URL import recognizes both, along with Perchance. Neither matches Chub on size. They’re worth a look if you already use Pygmalion’s models or the RisuAI frontend.

Where to actually run your cards

You’ve got three realistic options, and they trade control against effort.

The first is SillyTavern plus an API key. You get full control: any model, lorebooks, any card format, no content filter except the model’s own. It’s also the most setup. You install it, connect a model through OpenRouter or a local backend, and pay per token. Tinkerers love it. Most people bounce off.

The second is a hosted card platform. Chub’s Venus, Janitor AI, CrushOn and Joyland all accept imported cards, and SpicyChat has a 100K+ community library of its own. Our CrushOn review notes its PNG import support, and the Joyland review covers its reported JSON/PNG import. The trade-off is model quality. Free tiers on these sites tend to run small models that lose the plot in long scenes.

The third is a polished NSFW companion app, where you rebuild the character by hand. You can’t drop a PNG into these, but you can copy a card’s personality, scenario and example dialogue into the app’s character builder in a few minutes. In return you get tuned models, images of the character, memory and voice, none of which a card file gives you. These are the three we’d point card users to.

1. GirlfriendGPT: best for rebuilding a card with full control

GirlfriendGPT

MOST POPULAR
★★★★½(2.8k reviews)

Create your dream AI girlfriend with advanced customization

GirlfriendGPT is the closest a commercial app gets to card-style roleplay. Its builder has separate controls for personality, backstory and speech style, which map neatly onto what’s inside a V2 card. Paste the card’s description into personality, fold the scenario into the backstory, and use a couple of example messages to set the speech style. That gets you most of the way.

It also has its own community library of user-made characters, so you can browse it like a card site. Users say it holds character through long explicit scenes better than most hosted card platforms. It’s the one complaint people have about Venus and Janitor’s free models. NSFW images and voice come on top. Free tier with a daily cap, premium around $10–15/month. Details in our GirlfriendGPT review.

2. OurDream.ai: best for cards that need to remember you

OurDream.ai

Build meaningful connections with AI partners

Card setups have a memory problem. SillyTavern solves it with lorebooks and summarization extensions, which take effort. Hosted card sites mostly don’t solve it at all. OurDream.ai builds memory into the product: your companion carries details across sessions, explicit ones included, without you managing anything.

If your favorite card is a slow-burn relationship rather than a one-off scene, rebuilding it here makes sense. Images are included and uncensored, a step below Candy on realism. Plans start around $6/month on annual billing. The deep-memory comparison shows how it compares with Nomi and Kindroid.

3. Candy.ai: best if the card needs a face

Candy.ai

#1 PICK
★★★★½(3.2k reviews)

Lifelike AI companions with stunning visuals

A card’s avatar is one static image. Candy.ai gives you a character that can send new explicit images on request, and its face stays consistent across them. That’s the thing card platforms can’t do. If you’ve spent hours on a character you can picture clearly, Candy’s builder lets you set the look and then generate her.

The chat is less deep than GirlfriendGPT’s, and images and voice run on tokens on top of the subscription. Our Candy AI pricing guide does the math before you commit.

Safety notes before you download

Cards are just text and images, so they can’t run code on your machine. The risk sits elsewhere. Lightly moderated hubs host content you won’t want to stumble on, so set your tag filters before browsing. Some mirror and archive sites carry heavy ad networks, so don’t install anything a card site pushes at you.

The bigger privacy question is where you run the card. Hosted platforms store your chat logs on their servers. Our guide to how NSFW AI apps use your data covers what to check. A local SillyTavern setup with a local model is the only option where nothing leaves your machine.

FAQ

What are AI character cards?

They’re portable character files, usually a PNG with JSON data embedded inside. The data holds the character’s name, personality, scenario, first message and example dialogue. Any compatible frontend can load them, so one card works across SillyTavern, Chub’s Venus, Janitor-style sites and more.

What’s the best site for NSFW character cards?

Chub AI, for size and depth, as long as you use the tag filters. For Janitor AI bots, use JannyAI or Datacat. For a cleaner browse with previews, try Character Tavern or AICharacterCards.

Can I use character cards on Candy.ai or GirlfriendGPT?

Not as files. Neither imports PNG or JSON cards. You can copy a card’s text into their character builders, though, and GirlfriendGPT’s fields line up well with the card format.

Are there sites like Chub AI?

Yes. JannyAI, CharaVault, Botbooru, Character Tavern and AICharacterCards all host downloadable cards. None match Chub’s size. For a Chub-style hub with built-in chat, Janitor AI and SpicyChat are the closest. Our best NSFW roleplay bots roundup compares those chat platforms.

Do I need SillyTavern to use character cards?

No. Chub’s Venus, Janitor AI, CrushOn and Joyland all run imported cards in the browser. SillyTavern gives you the most control over models and memory, but it takes real setup.

Bottom line

Get your cards from Chub, with JannyAI as the backup for Janitor bots. Run them in SillyTavern if you like tinkering, or on a hosted card site if you don’t mind weaker free models. If what you want is the character rather than the file, rebuild it in GirlfriendGPT for roleplay depth, OurDream for memory, or Candy for images. Whichever you choose, these are AI characters running on a model, and they’ll only be as good as the card and the model behind them.
